  • Groups will be judged as a complete unit
  • Doubles or groups will be given a maximum of 3 minutes (rather than 2:30)

Props

Dancing can be done in a number of ways, and props can add to the theatrics of a routine quite nicely be it spinning poi, or using a cane for a ragtime routine.

Rules for Props
  • Props must not be sharp, pointy, or on fire for general safety
  • Throwable props (monopoly money, playing cards, large paper confetti, feathers) must be easily cleanable within 30 seconds after the routine is over.
  • Contestants are wholly responsible for cleaning up after their act or appointing someone to do it for them (failure to do so will result in loss of score for unsportsmanlike conduct)

Banned Items
  • Glitter (for obvious reasons)
  • Real Money (for obvious reasons)
  • Underwear (keeping it PG-13)
  • Food or Drink
  • Anything that can potentially harm audience members, judges, other contestants or that could damage hotel or audience property

Judging

3 Judges will be selected prior to competition by the convention committee
Each Judge will watch each dancer/duet and give them a score out of “5” for each of the following attributes:
  • Skill/Execution
  • Does the competitor have complete, defined movements?
  • Are their movements timed well to the beat of their music?
  • Are their movements projected and translated large enough to compensate for the bulkiness of a fursuit?
  • Theatrics/Energy
  • Does the competitor maintain their pace and fervor throughout their routine?
  • Is the audience electrified and engaged by the competitor’s routine?
  • Are props utilized/executed properly towards their routine?
  • Does the competitor have a unique performance?
  • Does the competitor articulate lyrically to their music?
  • Floor Coverage
  • Does the competitor use the given dance floor are to their advantage?
  • Does the competitor demonstrate a pattern in their movements returning to an origin point after each set of moves?
  • Example: returning to their starting position after the routine is over

WildCard
  • Does the competitor’s routine follow the theme of the convention OR follow the theme of their music track?
  • Does the competitor’s use of props tie into the theme of their routine (if used)
  • Does the competitor have a uniqueness to their routine?
  • Does the competitor display a certain attitude or demeanor that enhances their routine
  • Example: acting reserved for a ballad dance, acting competitive/cocky during a routine that matches the song’s attitude
  • Does the competitor wear a costume that ties in with their routine?

Deductions

The judges may also register deductions but can deduct only one point per attribute:
  • If a contestant stumbles and falls during a move set unintentionally and cannot recover within beat
  • If a contestant unfortunately cannot finish their routine and must stop for health purposes
  • If the contestant loses control of their prop and it’s heavy enough to harm others around
  • Example: losing control of a cane and it flies into the audience/ losing control of a poi ball and it flies into the audience.
  • Failure to clean their props up within the given limit after the routine
